DEALING WITH DEPRESSION AMONG TEENAGERS
From the day we are born to the day we die, we will face so many painful moments. Right? Some physical and some the brutally emotional ones!
This is inevitable and we all have to face it. But not all of us can handle it right? Some of us have loads on our plates already and when things get overwhelming and out of hand, we break. We lose control. We get depressed because nothing in life goes the way we want it to.
This occurs a lot on teenagers and university students as they start facing the real world around this time. The reality of it all can be hard to digest sometimes.
Life can be unfair in so many ways. You could become a loner just because you were born a certain way. You would have no luck in finding a partner just because of your certain features that you have no control over. You might not be able to follow academically well because of lack of IQ or bad family backgrounds.
So yes, life can be very unfair to anyone and everyone. And when kids are brought us, they have been told again and again that they are special and they can own this world if they wanted. They were told that hard work pays off and that being true is always the right move.
But that's not reality right? We cannot really get everything we want. We cannot really own this world and being true might put us in deep trouble if we are not careful! Right?
So how to deal with depression among teenagers:

PEER COMMUNITIES:
I would have said therapy by I believe that peer communities are like group therapy and can really help kids understand and relate with each other.
Teenagers can relate with teenagers better. Peer groups where everyone is sympathethic and have similar trauma affecting them and their mental health can be a good place to grow. Of course it has to be moderated by an adult with appropriate experience in this.
This must be followed by normal one on one therapy sessions where people could actually communicate and verbalize their problems and figure things out
STAYING AWAY FROM SUBSTANCES:
It is around this age that everyone would have a decision to make : to try alcohol/tobacco/weed/drugs with friends just to experiment and experience how it feels.
And while these when done occasionally cannot cause much problems, people tend to slip into these practices when things get back and depressing and these actually stops them from processing the trauma and pain and push them deeper into depression and cause various other mental health issues like addiction, lack of motivation and so much more!
MAINTAINING A JOY DIARY :
People are generally asked to journal to get in touch with their feelings right?
Journaling can help them verbalize their problems and their thoughts and analyze any bad patterns and figure things out. Journaling has helped me so much in my life.
The best part in journaling is that : you can go back and revisit the thoughts you had in the beginning of this year or even 5 years ago and check how much you have grown or how bad you have become and even gain some really good insights about yourself!
Anyways having a joy diary is to note down all the happy moments you had in the day.. Even if you had one moment where you felt good, note it down. It's important to remember the good times as well.
Of course there are going to be bad times in our life but that's not an excuse to forget all the good ones. Right?
